Canals and Cobblestones: First Three Days in Amsterdam

The past three days (excluding today, when I ventured into the countryside) I spent strolling through the streets in Amsterdam. Below are a few of the pictures I took while wandering.

Today’s pictures will be up later–I have plenty, though the tour was actually a bit of a let-down.

But the past few days were wonderful. Amsterdam is a city for humans! The cars stop to let people cross the street; every cafe spills its patrons into the street, where they continue chatting, and reading their newspapers, and drinking coffee, wine, tea. Meanwhile, dogs and kids run freely; everyone is milling about. This town is alive, and a place where one cannot help but feel happy.
