Red Light District

My “Red Light” room was only a preview of the real Red Light District outside the hostel doors. On Tuesday night, I took a Red Light District walking tour (led by the amazing Mark with the Orange Pom-Pom of the Sandemans tour company), which definitely exceeded my expectations. De Wallen is a beautiful area in Amsterdam during the day, and at night, well, you can’t really see much of the architecture (not only because are you distracted by the, uh, other sights), but the red lights reflecting in the canals are still plenty picturesque.

Of course, I didn’t take any pictures of the women behind the red-illuminated windows, but below are photos I did snap.

On the tour, we passed a jazz club (unfortunately, I didn’t make a note of the name), so after the tour was over (and after a quick bite of delicious Surinamese take-out), I came back for a few drinks and a few hours of listening to (almost entirely) great vocal jazz.

Hi, great photos. The one of the bubble over the street lamp is fantastic. Bethany Jazz Club is where we went. You can find them on FB and maybe post some of the photos you took of the performers there. The one I liked so much, with the huge voice is Yasmina van Gulp. :o)
